Getting to Know AoFrio: Ten Things That Define Our Business

Even if you’re not familiar with AoFrio, if you’ve ever reached for a cold, refreshing beverage in a convenience store, chances are that drink was kept at the perfect temperature by an AoFrio-enabled cooler.

For years AoFrio has worked quietly behind the scenes, providing energy efficient motors, IoT hardware and software solutions for millions of commercial refrigeration units around the world.

Today beyond hardware, we’re helping bottlers for global brands like Coca-Cola, PepsiCo and Heineken manage and track their cooler fleets, so they can improve service and maintenance, measure and boost energy efficiency and even improve commercial performance.

If you’re looking to better understand AoFrio, here’s ten points capturing who we are, how we’ve evolved, and where we’re focused next.

1. We created the connected refrigeration category, before it had a name

AoFrio launched one of the first connected platforms purpose-built for commercial bottle coolers. In 2017 we implemented our first IOT product, a connected electronic controller that enabled digital monitoring and data collection across large, distributed fleets. While the market has since expanded and emerging competitors have followed our lead, that early start allowed us to build one of the most comprehensive hardware, software and SaaS portfolios in the sector, supporting global beverage brands and bottlers at scale.

2. Our platform connects millions of refrigeration assets

AoFrio’s technology now supports more than 3.2 million connected coolers globally, with deployments continuing to grow across major beverage bottlers. Operating at this scale gives us deep insight into how coolers perform in real-world environments, and we’re using these insights to solve challenges and create new added -value for our customers.

3. We are a hardware-enabled SaaS business

Through our AoFrio iQ SaaS platform, we can provide fleet-wide monitoring, optimizsation and analytics that integrate deeply into customer operations. Initially developed for cold drink equipment, we’re also expanding the AoFrio iQ platform into adjacent markets such as food retail, where similar challenges of scale, energy efficiency and asset performance apply.

4. Engineering sits at the core of the company

Around half of our workforce are engineers, working across integrated projects for hardware, IoT, cloud platforms and data. That depth reflects the demands of building and operating global, always-on platforms and products that customers rely on every day, as well as our future-focused push into innovative new features and solutions.

5. We’re headquartered in New Zealand, with a global outlook

AoFrio is proudly New Zealand-based, with leadership, product development and engineering rooted in Aotearoa. Like many Kiwi technology companies, we bring a culture of practical problem-solving and engineering ingenuity, paired with a global perspective shaped by operating across regions and at scale. Today, our teams operate across Latin America, Europe, Asia and Oceania, supporting customers in over 30 countries worldwide.

6. Latin America is our largest market

Some of the world’s largest commercial refrigeration fleets and leading OEMs operate in Latin America, making it a natural focus for AoFrio. Long-term customer relationships and a passionate local team have enabled us to scale in a complex, high-volume environment. Last year, we furthered our commitment to the region, opening a new innovation centre in Querétaro, Mexico. We also have local team presence in Argentina, Brazil, Guatemala and Colombia.

7. Sustainability is central to what we do

Commercial refrigeration is energy intensive – in fact some bottlers are reporting cooler fleets account for up to 35% of their carbon emissions for every drink served. AoFrio’s hardware and optimization tools are designed to reduce energy consumption across coolers, helping customers achieve their sustainability goals. A recent third- party test by independent lab Re/Gent found that our AoFrio INSIDE bundle could reduce cooler energy consumption up to 68% over a standardized model – that translates into real emissions reductions for beverage brands, with the added bonus of lower energy bills for their retailers. Based on internal modelling, we estimate our products have contributed to more than 10.7 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions avoided to date; that’s the equivalent to around 3.8 years of New Zealand’s total electricity consumption!

Our vision is to embed sustainability into every aspect of our business by not only providing sustainable solutions to our customers but driving sustainable decision-making both in our operations and across our supply chain. That’s why we’re committed to maintaining industry sustainability credentials, such as our EcoVadis badge.

8. Our data is ready for an AI-powered future

With more than eight years of data from millions of connected cooler assets, AoFrio has built a rich operational dataset, one of the largest in the industry. This creates a strong foundation for applying AI and machine learning to optimize fleet performance, energy use and asset life at scale. We’re working towards developing meaningful AI-driven solutions for our iQ platform to help our customers leverage greater benefits and actionable insights.

9. We’ve evolved steadily for nearly four decades

Founded as Wellington Drive Technology in 1986, AoFrio’s roots extend back 40 years. Over that time, the business has evolved from motor manufacturing to connected systems and now SaaS-led solutions. Today, we’re the only company offering a full portfolio of motors and fans, IoT and SaaS solutions purpose-built for commercial refrigeration, with a team of over 150 passionate people working across Europe, Latin America, the US, Europe, and Asia Pacific.

10. We’re publicly listed and focused on long-term value

AoFrio is listed on the New Zealand Stock Exchange under the ticker AOF. Governance, transparency, and long-term thinking are central to how we operate as a global technology company. Our roots are in energy-efficient motors and connected controllers, but we have huge growth opportunities in AI powered SaaS , as our customers seek innovative, AI-driven solutions to enhance their business operations.
